Club flying sites

The Latrobe Valley Model Aero Club currently has 3 power Model flying sites and 2 Slope Gliding sites in the area from Traralgon to Drouin. Another site at the Blue Rock Dam is also under consideration but has a few restrictions and is not a good site for anyone who may be learning as most of the flying is done over the Lake facing into the sun. The roadway in & out can be affected by rain and may be boggy at times!

1 Lake Narracan near Moe/Newborough - This site is now the LVMAC's major flying Site and development began in 2000. It now has a 120m X 50m mowed grass strip and is suitable for Powered models and Thermal gliders. We also have a small beach and Jetty that is suitable to fly float planes from . In 2012 we put in a small concrete strip (2.4m X 12m) for electric models. The first & third gates are normally locked and Club Members can buy a key for access to this site (see the club secretary or treasurer). Parking space for major events is limited but no problem on normal weekends.

NOTE: No Model flying at any Club Sites on days of total fire ban. All LVMAC Club Sites are in the West and South Gippsland Fire Region.

No Flying before 7.00am onWeek days and 9.00am on Weekends & Public Holidays

2 Warragul The old Warragulsite is now closed and is being developed into a housing estate and a NEW WARRAGUL site has be found. IT is closer to town and is only suitable for models that are not noisy.

It is located on the corner of Number One Rd and Copeland Rd and has a locked gate access from Number One Rd.

3 Bluerock Dam - The Club has a lease on this site and it was to be a backup site for Warragul.

This Site has a 120m grass strip and a key is required for access. Unfortunately all flying is over the Lake and looking into the sun so its not the best site.

4 Tyers - A slope soaring site that we call NO PINE is located on the Tyers - Yallourn North Rd, above the old open cut mine. This is also private property and care should be taken when getting over the fence.

5 Yarragon - Another slope soaring site called Kerrie Brae is in the hills above Yarragon and on private property. Excellent for Westerly to Northerly winds and some walking is required to reach the flying site.
